Learning about HTML Meta Tags

Meta tags are be located in the HEAD section of an html document, between the <HEAD> </HEAD> tags usually found on the first few lines of the HTML source under the title of the document. To see an example of Meta tags, view the source of this document, or keep reading.

Most search engines index web sites like kingofthemill.net based at least partially on the Title, and Meta-Tag information found in the head of the document.

Many people have attempted to SPAM or Spoof search engines by using false meta-data. Many search engines, will punish a site that tries to spoof, and the site will either be ranked very low, or omitted completely from the engine.
